Classes

The LABO teaches anatomy to students of various programs, including medicine, dental sciences, veterinary sciences, physical therapy, polytechnical school, occupational therapy, sports, nursing, pharmacy, medical biology and arts.  Moreover, members of the LABO also teach human embryology.

Most of the courses are scheduled in the first three years of studies. However, some post-graduate courses of clinical anatomy are also part of our duties.

Theoretical classes are thought as magisterial lessons, including state-of-the-art pedagogical means, such as multimedia presentations and real-time display of demonstrations on anatomic specimens (also see Teaching materials), but also more classical tools that are still recognized as been of high value, such as hand-drawings during the class.

Practical classes include osteology, radiographic anatomy and dissections. Emphasis is particularly focused on the visualisation of real anatomic structures.

The general philosophy of our approach is to enable students:

• To access extended anatomical knowledge related to their respective study program,
• To access a three-dimensional understanding of descriptive and topographic anatomy,
• To access a thorough understanding of functional anatomy.

The LABO also organises advanced anatomy courses and dissections, integrated in national or international symposia as well as in extra-mural course programs.

Concerned with the questions of learning strategies, success and failure, the department presently conducts a study on the learning strategies of medicine and medical biology students. Strategies adapted to the field of anatomy are also proposed to students.
